SOP for Metal free zone
1.0 Purpose:
To ensure that the packing area as well as garments are free from any sorts of metal/ sharp object that is prohibited inside the metal free zone. This is a part of quality assurance process.
2.0 Scope:
This procedure is applicable for all the metal free zone of the organization.
3.0 Responsibility
Finishing manager/ in charge is responsible to maintain this procedure.
HR will help to maintain this procedure assigning a security in metal free zone.
Quality Manager/ in charge will monitor this procedure and take immediate action if any discrepancies found.
4.0 Requirements
Lock box for keeping offending materials with register.
5.0 Procedure
5.1 Metal free zone
5.1.1 Metal free zone should be separated from production area, except for certain places or doors, the entrance or exit of anything will be closed.
5.1.2 There will be a full-time security guard outside the metal free zone.
5.1.3 The metal free-zone doors will be locked on the outside but open on the inside, allowing easy access from the inside and control of entry from the outside. If you want to enter from outside, you have to enter through finger print or card punch for approved personnel maintaining proper record for the person without approval.
5.1.4 If anyone has any metal item, before entering the metal free zone, it should be registered in the register, deposited with the security guard and entered.
5.2 Security Guard
5.2.1 There will be a full-time security guard with a metal scanner in front of the metal free zone.
5.2.2 When someone enters, they will be scanned, if any metallic item is found, it will be recorded in the register and kept to themselves and will be returned at the time of exit.
5.2.3 Anyone other than the authorized person will be required to sign the register.
5.3 Metal Item
5.3.1 Under no circumstances should any metal item be allowed inside the metal free zone.
5.3.2 Under no circumstances may any metal tools such as cutters, scissors, poker, stitch opener, metal pins, needles, tag guns, anti-cutters, knives, staplers, pins, blades, metal clips, broken & sharp wooden/ plastic/ glass etc. be used inside the metal free zone.
5.4 Garments metal pass
5.4.1 After the garments unwanted thread are trimmed, ironed, quality checked and hang-tag attached, only then the garments are pass through the metal detector machine in order to ensure that product is completely free from metal & safe for the consumer.
5.4.2 No garment will enter the metal free zone without a metal pass.
5.4.3 When the metal passed garment comes out, it will pass through the metal detection machine again and enter inside.
5.4.4 As this is the last stage where the product gets packed and then reached the consumer, it is utmost important to ensure it doesn’t get contaminated getting in there as all the prior check has been completed.

5.5 Usage of jewelry Items Inside metal free zone
As most of the workers inside metal free zone are female and due to culture and religious customs, they tend to wear different sorts of jewelry and also to attach scarf, they use metal pins. As it is related to culture and religious customs, instead of barring it completely, a record has been developed where-
5.5.1 Every day in the morning, before entering the metal free zone, the concern individual shall write down the numbers of jewelries and pins they are wearing and sign.
5.5.2 End of the day, while coming out of the metal free zone, they must check the jewelries and pin and put a tick in the record if the quantity is same as while entering.
5.5.3 This procedure must be maintained for each and every individual inside metal free zone who wears any sort of jewelries or pins.
5.5.4 In case of any jewelry item or pin quantity is different to entering and out time, a thorough investigation must be conducted and accordingly corrective and preventive action must be taken.
5.6 Facial hair control Procedure
Facial hair control is an important part of foreign object control procedure. Facial hair can contaminate packed goods if it drops on it and somehow get shipped along.
5.6.1 To avoid it happening, each and every one working inside the metal free zone must wear hair scarf.
5.6.2 Anyone working inside if keep or have beard due to religious purpose must use beard net.
5.6.3 In case of any foreign object is identified or detected in the metal free zone, its’ source must be investigated and based on the source, corrective and preventive action must be taken to eliminated the risk of re-occurrence in future.

7.0 Definition
Metal free zone: A metal free zone is an area surrounding the industrial or sanitary conveyor where no metal is present and any metal access fully prevented.
